Recently, the second Lanzhou Plateau Seedling and Flower Trade Fair was held in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province. Representatives from 14 provincial-level administrative regions including Hebei, Shandong, Liaoning, Hubei, and Shaanxi, 18 seedling and flower associations, and 6 seedling technology alliances attended.
This two-day forum with 220 participants. What is its attraction and what directions has it pointed out for the development of the garden flower and tree industry?

How many opportunities are there in the northwest?
In recent years, the shrinking of municipal garden construction and the sluggish real estate market have led to very few large and medium-sized garden projects. A large number of conventional landscape seedlings and flowers such as Sophora japonica, Fraxinus chinensis, Platanus orientalis, Acer mono, and various types of potted flowers and lawns are unsalable. Growers who operate such products urgently need to change, either reducing the planting scale or improving the quality of seedlings.
During the salon session at the conference, Zhang Ruonan, general manager of Shaanxi Qianchun Garden, shared that in order to concentrate on producing superior products, he just turned the seedlings on more than 1,000 mu of land into wood chips. Li Shuguang, general manager of the 2,200-mu Platanus orientalis base in Dingzhou City, Hebei Province, has been engaged in Platanus orientalis production for 15 years and currently has formed a product echelon with a diameter at breast height ranging from 8 to 18 centimeters. "The key is to do a good job in cost reduction and efficiency increase and market docking." He firmly believes that on the road of chasing dreams, all of us are dark horses.
At the same time, from the interpretation of ecological policies for multiple provinces in the northwest at the conference, we can learn about the national investment intensity in afforestation in western plateau areas. A series of key afforestation projects including the national reserve forest construction, degraded grassland restoration, wetland protection and restoration supported and implemented by the state have been advanced with emphasis. Moreover, the subsidy standards for artificial arbor forests, artificial shrub forests, artificial grass planting, and engineering sand fixation in western regions have been raised to relatively high levels respectively.

Chen Kai, president of the Xi'an Seedling and Flower Association and general manager of Hongcai Gardening Group, shared his years of experience in the perennial flower industry. The company has introduced a large number of Hemerocallis varieties from home and abroad and on this basis has selected and bred more than 20 new Hemerocallis varieties, promoting product diversification and quality improvement in the Hemerocallis industry.
Yu Xingqiang, president of the Northern Seedling Alliance, suggested that seedling people should "take only one ladleful from the three thousand weak waters." For the current seedling market, we need to find a breakthrough point with market demand. For example, Meng Xianzhong, general manager of Changbai Mountain Forestry Hongmei Seedlings, has been "sharpening his sword for ten years" and produced and cultivated high-quality northern native plant 'Lihong' Acer truncatum. Zhang Zhanli, president of the Hebei Seedling Alliance, promotes clustered Fraxinus chinensis in Heqin Nursery, featuring unique landscape effects and excellent adaptability; Wang Xingfu, general manager of Beifang Nursery, focuses on the production and sales of shaped pine trees; Ma Xuefeng, general manager of Jingmen Fengcai Garden in Hubei Province, mainly promotes the shaped trees of Fraxinus hupehensis; Su Xinqi, general manager of Xi'an Xinghe Garden, has unique high-quality Pinus bungeana seedlings; Zhang Zhennan, general manager of Shandong Northern Shaped Trees, has a rich variety of seedling shapes.

Industry segmentation is an inevitable trend. With the rise of the family gardening market, practitioners have also found their segmented tracks. Xie Wei, president of the Gansu Flower Association, introduced peonies and hydrangeas in Yongdeng County, Gansu Province for fresh cut flowers. The cut flowers are of high quality and have achieved good economic benefits. In addition, there are those who are keen on courtyard plants, those who specialize in high-quality green potted plants, those who focus on the series of fragrant flowers and trees of the benzoin spice family, and those who professionally produce colorful coniferous trees...
