There is an insufficient supply of grass seeds for the "Three-North" project. 01 Some time ago, the "2025 Annual Supply and Demand Analysis Report of Seedlings for the 'Three-North' Project" jointly compiled by the Forest Farm Seedling Division of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration in conjunction with the Grassland Division, and organized by Beijing Forestry University and the Grassland Research Center of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration was released. There are investigations and data, and the reference value is far better than some chicken soup with little nutritional value. However, some people don't look at the content or the title and start spraying and even abusing as soon as they come up, showing how anxious their emotions are. "Market sentiment is generated in despair and dies in joy." The stock market in the past month has vividly demonstrated this. Has the seedling market entered a period of despair? The demand for seedlings is 1.65 billion plants, and the supply is 5.1 billion plants. The gap between supply and demand of seedlings for the "Three-North" project will expand. Today, excerpts from the "2025 Annual Supply and Demand Analysis Report of Grass Seeds for the 'Three-North' Project" are presented. This track and competition pattern are much better. 02 The goal is to build a 500,000-mu breeding base. In August 2023, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration issued the "Three-Year Action Plan for Revitalizing Forestry and Grassland Seedlings (2023-2025)".
The plan proposes to build a 500,000-mu grass seed breeding base to form a centralized production area for grass seeds for major ecological restoration in the country, with an annual new seed supply capacity of 24,800 tons. According to the "Report", in 2023, the total output of grass seeds for the "Three-North" project is about 19,200 tons. Among them, alfalfa is 2,700 tons, Elymus dahuricus is 10,000 tons, Poa pratensis is 1,800 tons, Festuca ovina is 1,200 tons, Leymus chinensis is 500 tons, Astragalus adsurgens is 500 tons, Elymus sibiricus is 500 tons, Agropyron cristatum is 200 tons, Bromus inermis is 100 tons, and others are 1,700 tons. Grass seed production situation in 2024. As of September 10, 2024, the harvested area of grass seeds in major provinces and regions of the "Three-North" project is about 464,500 mu, and the output is about 23,700 tons. Among them, Qinghai Province has the largest harvested area of about 235,000 mu, and the grass seed production reaches 20,000 tons; the grass seed harvested area in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is about 159,000 mu, and the grass seed output is 2,400 tons; the grass seed harvested area in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is about 43,600 mu, and the grass seed output is 400 tons; the grass seed production in Gansu, Shanxi, and Shaanxi provinces is 600 tons, 200 tons, and 100 tons respectively. 03 In 2025, the gap will be 10,000 to 20,000 tons. The "Report" gives the grass seed demand forecast for 2025.
According to the requirements of the "Sixth Phase Plan of the 'Three-North' Project", by 2030, the construction of the "Three-North" project will need to cumulatively complete about 100 million mu of grassland improvement area, about 380 million mu of comprehensive treatment area for desertified land, and about 70 million mu of afforestation and grass planting area on non-desertified land. With the continuous advancement of the three landmark battles of the "Three-North" project and the implementation of tasks such as grassland improvement, afforestation and grass planting, and desertified land treatment, it is estimated that the total annual grass seed demand for the "Three-North" project in my country will be about 40,000 to 50,000 tons. Grass seed supply forecast for 2025. According to the grass seed planting area data in the "Three-North" project area in September 2024, it is expected that the grass seed production area of the "Three-North" project will increase to 850,000 mu in 2025, and the grass seed output of the "Three-North" project is expected to exceed 30,000 tons. Among them, there are about 340,000 mu in Qinghai Province, about 380,000 mu in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, 50,000 mu in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, about 20,000 mu in Gansu Province, and a total of about 60,000 mu in other provinces and regions. Now many industries are severely involuted. It is rare to have an incremental market like grass seeds. A reminder that any industry has a cycle, and the timing of entry is very important.
