2024 spring seedling sales season is about to pass, for practitioners, this year's market is not "a turnaround". According to China Flower News, the situation in some major production areas can be described as bleak. Many respondents said: "No one seedling product performance is bright, the whole is relatively poor."
At present, there are few large-scale greening projects in most areas of China, which cannot pull the demand. Although after the past two years of industrial adjustment, has eliminated part of the excess, backward production capacity, but the industry as a whole is still oversupply, some enterprises this year "did not sell a seedling". The price reduction is more obvious in the main producing areas of all kinds of seedlings.

In Jingzhou, Hubei province, the price of camphor with a diameter of 15 cm at breast height was 800 yuan to 900 yuan at its peak, but now it is only 480 yuan to 550 yuan, and the price of camphor with a diameter of 12 cm at breast height is only 260 yuan to 280 yuan. At this price, seedling farmers basically have no profit. In Feixi, Anhui province, the main producer of the Yellow Mountain luan, the price of a car with a diameter of 15 cm at breast height has dropped to 300 to 400 yuan from 800 to 1,000 yuan at the peak.
In Xiaoshan, Zhejiang province, an important producer of ball seedlings, although the quality of seedling is improving day by day, the price is also falling, and the sales of ball seedlings in some nurseries are less than 30 percent of the same period last year. The diameter of 1.8 meters of red leaf heather ball, haitong ball sold last year about 260 yuan, this year dropped to 160 yuan to 170 yuan. The price of a 1.5 meter-diameter Jinson privignon ball has dropped from 170 yuan to about 120 yuan year-on-year.

As the market of traditional seedlings supplying municipal and real estate markets falls again and again, some pessimists estimate that even if the market picks up, such seedlings will be "flat" at best and difficult to return to "peak".
There are also practitioners who take advantage of the opportunity to explore new paths for industrial development. Behind these successful cases, some emerging growth points deserve everyone's attention.
First, the integration of agriculture, culture and tourism research, education and training, league building and other activities began to prevail. Especially in Beijing, Shanghai and other economically developed areas, many high-quality seedling production bases have become the place of popular science theme education.

For example, Dayu Scenic Bamboo Garden located in Yangzhou city, Jiangsu Province, is the largest variety of ornamental bamboo garden in the north of the Yangtze River. Since its establishment, the garden has realized the transformation from a simple bamboo production to an ecological sightseeing garden. Recently, the bamboo garden has welcomed a number of primary and secondary school students to study here with interesting projects such as bamboo planting and archery.
On the "2024 Beijing Spring New and Excellent Flower Varieties Exhibition and Promotion Meeting and the 9th Beijing Spring Flower Show of Flowers and Plants", more than 300 primary school students in grade 6 from Zhongguanchun Small Shunyi Campus were invited to carry out a unique nature research activity.

Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden and "Health Talk Show" recently launched a "popular science open Mai", in a natural environment, sharing interesting health knowledge, to achieve better healing effects. Seedling production units can participate in the co-construction of the above projects based on their own advantages, break the traditional boundaries of the industry, and integrate development. Second, parks pay more and more attention to functionality, emphasizing the sense of tour experience and acquisition. In Changzhou, for example, parent-child parks are growing at a rate of one a month, spurring the application of child-friendly plants and children's amusement facilities. The park has also created plant-themed parent-child interaction projects and launched rich cultural and creative products.
Functional landscape construction such as "silver economy", "parent-child economy", "sports park" and "healing park" may become new growth points of the industry. Since the beginning of this year, various flower exhibitions have focused on edible, medicinal and edible flowers and plant products, which have attracted much attention. These products can not only be viewed in the landscape, but also play a beneficial role in health.

Third, landscaping pays more attention to biodiversity, and large ecological and landscape construction needs rich plant categories for collocation. Now, the types of plants designed in garden projects have been several times or even dozens of times more than ten years ago, and there will be more in the future. Practitioners can appropriately enrich product categories and carry out intensive production.
It is worth noting that there are a large number of trees, shrubs and ground cover plants in the market at present, but there are few types of lianas suitable for three-dimensional greening and landscape use, and fine products are scarce. Therefore, we can breed and improve the quality of climbing plants such as trumtrumpet, Fufang rattan and boucuma.
The reporter of China Flower News found that many of the practitioners who are still "sticking to their positions" have already taken action. They have carried out exploration and experiments in various directions, and the future trend of the industry is becoming more and more clear in the exploration.
