The production of fresh tomatoes in Europe is expected to decline during the winter and shift towards the cultivation of smaller varieties.

This is a prediction for the tomato market until 2035. It is forecasted that the decline in fresh tomato production is a significant trend.

Meanwhile, due to the growing demand for small tomato varieties, especially snack tomatoes, which has led to a significant increase in interest, the consumption of fresh tomatoes is expected to remain stable.

2

On average, the annual tomato consumption per capita is expected to remain at 15.2 kilograms. In contrast, driven by the increasing demand for processed foods, both the production and consumption of processed tomatoes in the EU are expected to grow. The annual growth rate is projected to be 1.2%, reaching 23 kilograms per capita per year by 2035.

The report also analyzed the import and export situation. Imports are expected to continue to grow at an annual rate of 0.6%, with Morocco remaining the main supplier. Conversely, exports are expected to decline by 0.2% annually.
