Blueberries grown in the Guangdong production area of China have advantages in freshness and transportation costs as the area is closer to the sales destinations. As a result, the planting area has been gradually increasing. The Guangzhou Deyu Blueberry Base is located in the Huadu production area of Guangdong. According to Mr. Xie Jinping, the sales manager of the company, the blueberry planting situation is good this year, and the blueberries were put on the market about 20 days earlier than last year.

"Blueberries in Huadu are basically planted in greenhouses with substrate cultivation. Due to the climatic characteristics, the advantageous sales period is from January to March. Currently, the sales are going smoothly. The quantity on the market was relatively small in the early production season, and the peak production period is from February to March. With the increase in the age of the trees in the base, the output this season is expected to increase compared with last year. In terms of size, blueberries with a fruit diameter of 18mm+ currently account for a relatively large proportion," Mr. Xie introduced.

"The weather in the production area has been ideal in recent months, with sufficient sunlight during the day and a large temperature difference between morning and evening, which is beneficial to the growth of blueberries. The taste and quality of blueberries this year are overall better than last year."

When talking about the current market, Mr. Xie said that the overall sales of domestic blueberries are good, but the price is lower than the same period last year. "In January last year, the market was mainly dominated by imported blueberries, and the quantity of domestic blueberries was small. Currently, imported blueberries from Peru and Chile are on sale, and the quantity of blueberries from several domestic production areas has increased compared with last year. The overall market supply is larger than in previous years, so the overall price has been pulled down."

"Domestic blueberries have advantages in taste and freshness. Due to the small quantity in the early production season, the selling price is relatively high. The relatively low price of imported blueberries also affects the sales of domestic blueberries."

The planting area of the Deyu Blueberry Base exceeds 800 mu, with the brand "Huaqingyao". The main sales channels are supermarkets and wholesale markets within Guangdong Province. "Since the base is relatively close to customers, it can maintain a high level of freshness of blueberries, which is also our competitive advantage."
